Stefano Boverio

He graduated in saxophone with the highest mark at the Musical Institute “F. Vittadini” of Pavia, then he studied and perfected with Bruno Totaro at the Regional Conservatory of Vichy, France.

From October 2004 until June 2007 he studied both the classical and contemporary repertoire with Nobuya Sugawa at the University of Arts in Tokyo, Japan, where he settled for three years and where he opened its own school of music. During that period he held workshops in different schools, playing at the same time with the “Gamagori Woodwind Orchestra” and performing concerts in the most important Japanese cities. He also played as a member and leader of a group of traditional Japanese music involving Japanese and Brazilian musicians. In 2007 he was awarded with the honorary title of “Ambassador of the City of Toyohashi” for artistic reasons.

From 2010 to 2012 he attended the two-years postgraduate program and graduated with honors at the Musical Institute “F. Vittadini” in Pavia. He attended many competitions, winning the 1st prize at the International competition “Paul Harris” in Milan and the 3rd prize at the “International Competition for Young Talents”.

He has taught as a saxophone teacher in various institutions both in Italy and in Japan. He has also held several seminars in many schools and institutions including “Nagoya International High School”, “Toyohashi Toyoka Chugakko” and “Toyohashi Chubu Chugakko”, Japan. He also played jazz with the famous pianist Umberto Petrin in his “Orchestra Novissima”, participating in numerous events.

Since 2004 he has had an intense activity as a performer both in duo with piano and in saxophone quartet, playing classical and contemporary music in important festivals such as “Verdi Festival”, Festival of Gressoney, “Festival dei Saperi”, “Borghi e Valli” Festival, Felstival “Ultrapadum”. He also gave concerts in several theatres in Japan, Italy, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Since 2008 he has been member of the “Orchestra dei Fiati Città di Soncino”, where he played conducted by Ferrer Ferrand, Pablo Sanchez Torella and Luca Valenti. In 2010, with the same orchestra, he played on several occasions with the famous Italian singer Antonella Ruggiero.

In 2008 he founded the “Midnight Saxophone Quartet”.

From September 2012 to March 2013 he played in the Italian tour of “Shrek, The Musical”, playing in the major Italian theatres (Milan, Turin, Rome, Trieste, Florence).
